When hiking the Appalachian Trail, South from the Clingman's Dome observation tower, I always find myself stopping at this little bald spot, about a mile down the trail. At 6,000 feet, the fresh air wakes up my soul. The sight of endless clouds drifting through the mountaintops is captivating. It can seem like a different world.
After soaking it all in, I always look back to see if I can catch a glimpse of the observation tower I just left behind. — Larry Smith
