FOOTBRIDGE AT ANTHONY CREEK

Descending along the ridge near Spence Field on the Appalacian Trail, you can coast down hills for about six miles toward the "Cades Cove" campground. There are many streams and small bridges for crossing. This one, made from a split log, is one of my favorites. In Winter, I have treked across this log, and the seven inches of snow and ice that covered it. And in Summer, I've sat upon this log to cool my feet in the Anthony Creek stream that runs underneath. —Larry Smith
