TRAIL AT CHARLIE’S BUNION

Charlie’s Bunion is on the Appalachian Trail in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. A forest fire stripped the mountain of her foliage — exposing the sheer rock. Charlie’s Bunion can be reached by a 4-mile, mostly uphill, heart-thumping, northward hike, from Newfound Gap.

The views are majestic. Always changing. And always a delight to see.

I painted this painting using a pallette knife boldly and just a few delicate brush strokes. I love the way it turned out. I believe Charlie’s feet would be proud. — Larry Smith
